Warriors in the Community

To be a "Warrior" means more then just playing football on Friday nights.
A "Warrior" is someone who takes pride in his community, and helps those in need.

Community service is a staple of the Walled Lake Western Football team. The Warriors have been repeatedly recognized for their volunteer work in the Walled Lake community since the late 90's.

  • 2006 Steve Spicer Award from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association presented to the school that performs the most community service.

  • Walled Lake Western is the first program to receive this award twice.

  • 2003 Fraser Award from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association presented to the school in the State of Michigan that has done an “Outstanding Job” of promoting reading in their communities.

  • 2001 Steve Spicer Award from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association presented to the school that performs the most community service.

  • 2000 Oakland Press Volunteers of the Month for working with the United Way’s “A Day of Caring.”

  • Hospitality House- many times and many players have volunteered a Saturday morning there.

  • Players read to and help elementary students in various elementary schools in the Walled Lake district.

  • Yearly clean up of school facilities and  property at Walled Lake Western High School.

  • Caring for and maintaining the landscaping of Dick Waston Field

  • Working with the Lakes Area Hawks and the Walled Lake Braves two area youth programs and also working with the Giesler Wolves and Banks Bulldogs middle school football programs.
